BEALE PADDLES AMBASSADOR
"Walk softly and always carry a beautiful wooden stick"
GREENLAND PADDLES — A.K.A. "Skinny Sticks."

Each BEALE PADDLE that leaves the carving shop is as unique as the paddler who takes it home. These are traditional, Greenland-style paddles custom-crafted by Portland artist Don Beale.

The Inuit, who depended on kayaks for their subsistence, originally developed these paddles. Today, more and more paddlers are transitioning to this style and I am proud to be one of them! As an "aging adventurer" my joints, tendons and muscles are much happier with these narrower blades that offer less stress on all body parts involved in a paddlestroke (and there are lots of them!)
So much of paddling is about finesse and paddle dexterity and the long, slender blades propel the kayak swiftly forward (or backward, or sideways) and provide excellent lift for sculling, bracing, and rolling. I also love the "warm" feel of the wood in my hands — so much nicer to the touch than a cold fiberglass paddle!
So much to embrace about these paddles and I'm honored to represent Don's brand. If you have any questions about traditional paddles, please reach out to either me or the Master himself.
