It suits my body type, my personality, my interests, my energy level, my soul. Paddling brings out the best in me and challenges me to be better. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons I chose to paddle the Inside Passage was that I wanted to see how I would handle adversity, and how that adversity would make me a better version of myself.

In a nutshell, I’m a water-loving, word-slinging, adventure-seeking gal. My keen sense of adventure and insatiable curiosity has had a profound influence on the course of my life—and more importantly—on my writing. OK, I’m a writer with a paddling problem! Writing has become a venue to share my passion in a colorful, soulful reality, both on and off the water.

I’ve been involved in the paddlesports industry for over 25 years and am an EXPED adventure ambassador and sponsored athlete, a responsibility I fully embrace and treasure. I currently hold an American Canoe Association (ACA) Open Water Coastal certification and enjoy sharing my passion, both in the classroom and on the water, with novice through advanced paddlers. My combined passions have lead to publication in Sea Kayaker, Canoe and Kayak, Adventures Northwest, Harbor, and Figure magazines. Countless newspapers, guidebooks, and historical journals also feature my work. INSIDE is my debut memoir.

For one summer my world was scaled down to an 18-foot sea kayak and the 1,200-mile ribbon of water known as the Inside Passage. Mine was a journey of the sea and the soul that took me both north to Alaska and inward, as I discovered the depths of my own strength and courage. It was a profoundly life-changing journey and I’d love to take you along for the ride!
